Searching for... Moana...
In the last couple of years, my avid love of movies has been thwarted by the lack of originality, the high ass prices at the show, and my incredibly busy life. Damned near every hour of my life is slotted for something. Work, sleep, family, writing, and occasional social events. There are those who think I'm not being truthful, or I just don't want to attend, but I really am just that busy.
'Black Panther' had been out a couple of weeks before our schedules permitted us to go see it. Yes, my wife's calendar is pretty damned full as well, because we're being productive and proactive in goal attainment. Anyway, when there's a movie coming out that we'd like to see, we try to find the time to see it.
That being said, there have been dozens of movies we wanted to check out, but didn't get the chance. Oh well, right? Then we went on vacation and I got to see some movies or at least parts of them.
I hadn't been on a plane for more than four hours in two years I think. All of our flights had been in the neighborhood of two hours, just long enough for two drinks, a quick nap, and peanuts. Our 9,000 mile vacation began with an Alaskan Air flight to Seattle, a five hour flight.
I had a book, my laptop, Ipod, and headphones, prepared for this first leg of our trip. I settled in after takeoff, only to see my neighbor turning on the screen in front of him. I did the same, and watched 'Black Panther' again. Wakanda forever. Lol.
After it went off, I searched through the available movies and settled on an animated movie I hadn't seen. 'Moana' was apropos because after three days in Seattle, we'd be flying to Hawai'i. I felt as if it were meant to be.
I started watching it and I was enthralled, entertained, and I had a smile plastered on my face... until the flight attendants started preparing for landing and I still had more than half of the movie to go! No worries, I thought to myself, because we had at least four more flights to endure on our two week vacation. Surely 'Moana' would be available on one of them.
Sigh. Nope. Not on Delta, United, or Hawaiian Air. I snoozed through 'Infinity Wars,' snored through 'Justice League,' and watched a couple of other forgettable movies, but no 'Moana.' "Disappointed" was an understatement.
I'm on a mini-vacation next week, and we have no travel plans. We have too much other stuff going on to indulge our travel addiction. We'll keep ourselves semi-busy, and we'll have some fun times. At some point though, I will carve out a couple of hours of nothing to do, and guess what I'll be doing? Yup, I'll finally finish watching 'Moana.'
Mahalo.
