Um, so about that Bucket List...

       Funny thing happened to me the other day which blew me away. While looking for an invoice on my desk, I came across my old green spiral notebook. Nostalgia swept over me and I paused for a little while, reading the handwritten scribblings of a closet writer not ready to show the world his work. My early stuff is in this notebook, some dating back ten years or more. Wow. The first original chapter of 'Eleven Fifty Nine,' 'A Night at Lucky's,' and dozens of other poems and short stories. I also stumbled across a list I wrote ten years ago; my bucket list.

          The movie came out in 2007, inspiring mysef and I'm sure millions of others to jot down their own 'bucket lists.' I read mine, smiling and grinning, until I realized something which damned near had me in tears. I need a new bucket list.

         This is my original list;

Bucket List 1. Visit all fifty states 2. Visit Mt. Rushmore 3. Go to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York 4. Write a book 5. See the ceiling at the Sistine Chapel 6. Go to the Crossroads where Robert Johnson sold his soul to the Devil. 7. Make my mother proud of me. 8. Inspire my kids to reach for the stars. 9. Pick grapes off of the vine in the Napa Valley. 10. See Jay-Z, Prince, and Jill Scott perform live.

          Do you see what has happened? In ten short years I've really chopped down this list. Crap. It's supposed to take a lifetime, but I've been moving around quite a bit. Let me do a checkdown really quick.

1. Five states to go, with two more scheduled for 2018.✔

2. 2017✔

3. For my fortieth birthday ✔

4. ✔✔✔✔✔✔

5. Happening in the foreseeable future.

6.✔ Took pictures to prove it.

7. Fingers crossed, but I think she is.✔

8. One is planning her own business, the other is planning on joining 'Teachers Without Borders.'✔

9. 2009, on my honeymoon. ✔

10. Saw Jay-Z and Jill, but didn't get a chance to see Prince. ✔

So, now I'm in a bit of a quandary. My 'Bucket List' is nearing completion. Hmmm... Time to start another one. I'm ahead of schedule. How's everyone else's list going? Get to it... I'm thinking Petra for sure... Sydney Opera House... Tokyo... my new list is coming together.
